NSW is Australia's oldest winegrowing state. The regions are clustered into a few major zones.
The terroir of the coastal regions is dominated by the humidity from the Pacific Ocean. Cooler areas along the Great Dividing Range and its inland slopes provide the best opportunities for the production of fine wine, while the vast majority of wine produced comes for the warmer irrigation areas to the west.
